Soft ombré machine brow shading for a defined, polished look that lasts up to three years. Ideal for oily and combination skin. Obsidian Clinics, Edinburgh.
Powder brows is a machine-based semi-permanent makeup technique creating a soft, powdery ombré effect across the brow — lighter at the inner corner, building to a richer, denser colour at the arch and tail. Unlike microblading, which creates individual hair strokes, powder brows deliver a filled-in, defined result resembling a brow pencil or powder applied expertly by hand.
The technique is performed using a PMU machine with a fine needle, depositing pigment in a stippling motion just beneath the skin surface. Particularly well-suited to clients with oily or combination skin, and to mature skin types where a soft, shaded finish heals more predictably. Results last between one and three years, making powder brows one of the most durable brow treatments available.
At Obsidian Clinics Edinburgh, every powder brows treatment begins with a thorough consultation to assess your skin type, bone structure, and desired outcome. Pigment colour is carefully matched and brow shape is pre-drawn for approval before application begins. A 6–8 week review and touch-up appointment is included.

Neither is universally better — powder brows suit oily or mature skin better, while microblading delivers a more natural hair-stroke effect. Our Edinburgh practitioners recommend the best approach at consultation.
When correctly executed, powder brows create a soft-focus, natural result — not sharp or drawn-on. Intensity is adjustable from subtle to fully defined.
Typically one to three years, influenced by skin type, sun exposure, and skincare habits. Annual colour refresh appointments maintain the result.
Topical numbing is applied throughout. Most clients describe gentle vibration or mild pressure. Generally well tolerated.
